Rest days, do you plan them? Here’s why you shouldn’t.
When it comes to rest days people normally take the weekend off… some even take the weekend off everything, but let’s keep this about working out/exercise.
Let’s say you wake up Saturday morning and feel fully rested and fresh and actually feel like working out… should you not? Would you say to yourself…
“I’ve worked out 5 times this week already, even though I feel rested and in the mood to workout I’m not going to”
Just because you planned a rest day doesn’t mean you really have to, also, if you took a day off during the week, would you go on the Saturday to make up for it? Be honest, probably not.
When it comes to rest days I take Sundays off, this is mainly because my gym opens from 8am until 12 noon and it gets very busy over the weekend.
Now, if I need a day off, if a medical reason or family issues pops up of course I’ll pass on the workout, but waking up and “not feeling like it” doesn’t really cut it as a worthy excuse.
I few months back I had one of those mornings, I woke up and really wasn’t in the mood, I lay there for about 30 minutes and talked myself into a rest day, said I would just eat a little less.
At about 5pm that evening I was just looking back on my day thinking “you bitched out man, you could have worked out and you know it” and I did know it.
This is why I plan to workout most days of the week and take a day off only if I need to, I don’t plan the unfortunate events but just take them as they happen (which is very rarely).
So don’t plan to take a day off, just take them when you have something that is more important, most times it’s just easier to not workout, but think of the feeling after and the benefits of the workouts built up over time.
The compounding effect is real.
